Pantheon is a collection of related 1-2 minute solo pieces commissioned by various performers during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. Micro-commissions became a significant trend at this time - $5 commissions for 1-2 minute solo works. I find that Greco-Roman Mythology is largely tapped for creative inspiration at this point, but the lesser pantheon tends to be forgotten in favor of the 12 major deities. Each of these miniatures is based on one of those lesser figures, and depicts the force of nature they represent. I’m certainly open to doing more in the future.

Helios

For Trumpet

Commissioned by Andrew Davidson

Music educator and trumpet player Andrew Davidson and I lived together for several years. We spent a LOT of time together, especially in 2020. He is truly one of the best people I’ve ever met, and this was the first (but not last) piece I wrote for him. Helios depicts the god of the sun, which seemed a no-brainer for the bright, clear voice of the trumpet. The piece is subdivided into three sections: “Blinding,” “Scorching,” and “Shining.”

Eos

For Flute

Commissioned by Justine Lee Hooper

Eos is the goddess of the dawn, the Greek equivalent of Aurora. I’m a night owl so I don’t tend to see many dawns,

Selene

For Oboe

Commissioned by Tyler Scott Keuhn

Selene is the goddess of the moon.
